To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD. Genesis 4:26

Dear Praying Friends,

The Kneeling Christian was published anonymously early in the first half of the 20th Century, prior to of WWII. It has changed the lives of multiplied thousands around the world and is considered by many to be the greatest modern classic on prayer:

Prayer is much more than merely asking God for something, although that is a very valuable part of prayer if only because it reminds us of our utter dependence upon God. It is also communion with God – talking with Him, not only to Him. We get to know people by talking with them. We get to know God in like manner. The highest result of prayer is not deliverance from evil, or the securing of some coveted thing, but knowledge of God… “And this is life eternal, that they should know Thee, the only true God"(John 17:3)…

Real prayer at its highest and best reveals a soul athirst for God… Real prayer comes from the lips of those whose affection is set on things above. What a man of prayer Zinzendorf was. Why? He sought the Giver rather than His gifts. He said: "I have one passion: it is He, He alone."…

May we then suggest that before we lay our petitions before God we first dwell in meditation upon His glory and then upon His grace … Let us place ourselves in the presence of God and direct our prayer to the King of kings, and Lord of lords… to Whom be honor and power eternal (1 Tim. 6:16). Let us then give Him adoration and praise because of His exceeding great glory. Consecration is not enough. There must be adoration.

"Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Hosts,"cry the seraphim;"the whole earth is full of His glory"(Isa. 6:3); Lk 2:13-14). Yet some of us try to commune with God without stopping to"put off [our] shoes from off[our]feet"(Ex. 3:5)…

Dr. Wilbur Chapman wrote to a friend: "I have learned some great lessons concerning prayer. At one of our missions in England the audiences were exceedingly small. But I received a note saying that an American missionary...was going to pray God’s blessing down upon our work. He was known as ‘Praying Hyde.’ Almost instantly the tide turned. The hall became packed, and at my first invitation fifty men accepted Christ as their Savior. As we were leaving I said, ‘Mr. Hyde, I want you to pray for me.’ He came to my room, turned the key in the door, and dropped on his knees, and waited five minutes without a single syllable coming from his lips. I could hear my own heart thumping and his beating. I felt the hot tears running down my face. I knew I was with God. Then with upturned face, down which the tears were streaming, he said ‘O God!’ Then for five minutes at least he was still again; and then, when he knew that he was talking with God...there came up from the depth of his heart such petitions for men as I had never heard before. I rose from my knees to know what real prayer was” (Knowing God through Prayer, The Herald of His Coming, Nov. 2009; taken from The Kneeling Christian, Christian Classics Ethereal Library – CCEL).

The Call2Fall and other nationwide prayer and repentance initiatives are rooted in 2 Chronicles 7:14. The Kneeling Christian points to the oft-neglected: “If My people will … seek my face…”

God give us four conditions, to: 1) humble ourselves, 2) pray, 3) seek God’s Face, and 4) turn from our wicked ways. If we do, God will: 1) hear from heaven, 2) forgive our sins and 3) heal our land. Of course, America is not ancient Israel, and we can’t demand that God bring revival. However, the church of Jesus Christ needs the forgiveness and healing II Chronicles describes – for our apathy in the face of evil, our own participation in sin, and the brokenness of so many of our lives. As to turn to Him in repentance and faith, we know our Father will hear, and honor, our prayers.

Our vision for America is grounded in one of the earliest accounts of revival ever recorded: In Genesis, we learn about Adam and Eve’s sin, their expulsion from the Garden, their son Cain’s murder of Abel, and God’s judgment. It is a record of sin and its devastating consequences.

When their third son Seth bore his son, Enosh (Christ was in Seth’s lineage, Lk 3:22-38), Genesis 4:26 informs us, “People began to call upon the name of the LORD.” Bible lexicographers say the verse can be translated two ways: 1) then began men to call themselves by the name of the Lord, to distinguish themselves from idolaters; or 2) then men in some public and earnest way began to call upon the Lord, indicating a time of spiritual revival.God covets the prayers of those “called by His name” (2 Chr 7:14). Our Forefathers prayed, evidenced by numerous officially proclaimed days for humiliation, fasting, and prayer in early American history. Yet today, far too few churches teach or practice prayer as modeled in Scripture or our nation’s history. Is it not time for God’s people to break from our day’s cultural sins and their consequences and to begin to “call upon the name of the Lord?”

Call2Fall just 3 days away, this Sunday, June 29! Hopefully your church is participating (If not or you are unsure, call your pastor. It is still not too late for churches to sign up – It is late and he may need to prepare your congregation with an email explaining and pointing them to Call2Fall, but it is doable). If your church does not participate, you can still do so by yourself, or lead your family, your prayer group or home fellowship in a time of prayer for our nation on Sunday, spending at least 5 minutes (if physically able), on your knees before the Lord. If necessary, call your family together by telephone conference call, FaceTime, Tango, Skype or one of the many modern communication devices that make long distance gatherings possible today. Urge your pastor sign up at www.Call2Fall.com, Go there yourself and click “I’m In.”

  • Lord, our hope for America is in You! We seek to know You more, and pray for our countrymen that all will call upon the Name and come to know You. We pray for America’s churches; that you will send an awakening that impacts our nation and the nations! May Call2Fall be a step toward nationwide Solemn Assembly. May sweeping repentance touch every people group in America. May your people unite in response to each element of 2 Chronicles 7:14 and may we see immediate and lasting fruit, In Jesus’ Name, Amen! (Ps 27:8; 63:1-4; Is 26:9; 55:6-7; Joel 2:12-18; Heb 7:19-25).

Meriam Ibrahim and her Family: Elated by news Monday that a Sudanese court had acquitted Meriam, reversing her sentence of torture and death by hanging, and that she and her children had been freed, we awakened yesterday to news that 40 Sudanese security police had arrested Meriam and her family at the airport and prevented them from leaving the country. Then, we learned they were freed again, but ordered to get new documents from Sudan’s government. Remember, Meriam is married to an American citizen, and her two little ones are, arguably, Americans as well given their father’s status as a citizen of our country. Tony Perkins is advocating for the President and State Department immediately to grant the family safe harbor in the U.S. (see Freed; Re-Arrested; Sudan Law; Free Again?; On Standby).

  • May God deliver this family from the clutches of men and women who desire to murder her! May our President, who after swapping five Taliban leaders for an accused AWOL soldier, said, “We never leave an American behind, use his power to see the family provided safe passage to the U.S. and safe haven here (Ps 142:1-7; Pr 24:10-12; Is 58:6; Mt 25:36; Acts 12:5; 16:20-34).

Anne Graham Lotz Urgent Call to Prayer – We urge those who participate in Call2Fall to consider joining Evangelist Anne Graham Lotz’ Prayer & repentance initiative: 7-7-7: Pray! In the 7thmonth, July; Pray! On each of the first 7 daysof July and Pray! And on July 7th for 7 hours of your choosing, fast (visit Urgent Call to Prayer).

  • May God guide many to join in these seven days of doable prayer and fasting.

Finally: Please pray over the following matters as the Lord guides: 1)The Presbyterian Church USA, which voted overwhelmingly to redefine marriage as a union between two persons; to allow ministers to celebrate same-sex marriages, to approve unlimited an right to abortion to include allowing born-alive abortion victims to die, and to disinvest from Israel. May God guide Christians in this Bible-renouncing denomination! 2) The web of taxpayer funded abortion in Obamacare must be stopped. 3) High stake Supreme Court Decision on Hobby Lobby coming soon. 4) The President’s “Family Summit” pushed government help for “all kinds” of families, but avoided mention of marriage! A John Hopkins study shows that more millennial mothers are single than married. 5) Pray over the outcomes of the Taliban-Bergdahl Swap – see General Boykin’s Questions. 6) IRS Accountability! Thank you for praying!
