Prayer Targets: Manly Men; Stand Courageous; Chick-fil-A; More

Now the days of David drew near that he should die, and he charged Solomon his son, saying, "I go the way of all the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. And keep the charge of the Lord your God... (1 Kings 2:1-4 NKJV)
Dear Praying Friends,
Miranda Devine is a conservative syndicated columnist and writer for newspapers in the U.S., Great Britain, and Australia. These excerpts are from her recent article in the New York Post. Itillustrates instinctive, more traditional manhood. In our politically correct culture that mocks manliness, FRC has launched "Stand Courageous," a new nationwide ministry to help revive biblical manhood.
When a knife-wielding killer went on a bloody rampage through the streets of Sydney, Australia, he was stopped in his tracks by a group of courageous men using just a milk crate and a chair. Brandishing a butcher's knife and yelling "Allahu Akbar," 21-year-old Mert Ney had already allegedly murdered one woman and stabbed another in the back when six men armed themselves with weapons, ranging from a café chair to a firefighter's ax, and chased him down. With the killer pinned to the ground, one of the men yelled at him in outrage over his violence against women: "You're a piece of . . . You stabbed a chick, mate."
In every story of bloodshed and mayhem, it's the same. Tales of selfless male heroism and chivalry emerge in the face of mortal danger. These are men who rush toward danger, risking their lives and even dying in the noble cause of protecting women and children.
We saw it in the El Paso and Dayton massacres. There was David Johnson, 63, who pushed his wife and 9-year-old granddaughter to safety under a counter at the El Paso Walmart before he was fatally shot. There was bar bouncer Jeremy Ganger, who stood his ground at the front door of a Dayton bar, reportedly pulling people inside as they fled from the shooter who was firing an AR-15 and wearing body armor. Ganger suffered a shrapnel leg wound.
And, of course, there was the extraordinary bravery and competence of the Dayton cops. We saw them in footage released this week, running toward the shooter when the logical response was to race in the opposite direction. Guns drawn, they shot the killer dead in all of 32 seconds.
Or take 21-year-old Riley Howell, who charged at a gunman shooting up his classroom at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, in April and managed to knock him to the ground. Howell was killed but his heroic act saved the lives of up to 30 classmates.
We always are quick to point to the dark side of masculinity when violence is committed, but too often we overlook the feats of bravery by men who combat it.
Call it the chivalry instinct, it is what inspires men to run toward danger to protect the weak.
This is the noble side of masculinity that we once would perpetuate in folklore and stories passed down from father to son about what it means to be a real man. But in the new era of "toxic masculinity," young men are taught to ignore their heroic instincts and learn to be weak. They are instructed always to be on guard against the monster within.
Shaving-products company Gillette's "toxic masculinity" campaign is a case in point. Whereas the razor maker used to celebrate the bond between fathers and sons, its new woke advertising is all about showcasing bad male behavior -- such travesties as men standing behind BBQs or little boys roughhousing. This demonization of intrinsic maleness is part of a feminist movement to rewrite human history as the tale of tyrannical patriarchy. It quickly mutated out of the #MeToo campaign, which began as a reasonable "get-square" with powerful men who preyed on women but since has taken on a frighteningly punitive air.
Now masculinity itself is the enemy and must be crushed from its earliest manifestations. Boys and young men are bombarded with messages pathologizing their DNA. If they look at a woman, they're accused of leering. If they open a door for a woman, they're sexist. Even the way they sit on the subway has been criminalized...
The American Psychological Association formalized the new pathology earlier this year by declaring "traditional masculinity is psychologically harmful." The male attributes it fingered as most worrisome were: stoicism, competitiveness, dominance, aggression, anti-femininity, achievement, "eschewal of the appearance of weakness," adventure, risk and violence.
Give me a break! Without any of that, all you're left with is a soy boy with whom no self-respecting woman would want to mate.
This is the paradox of human attraction. Psychologists have found that women instinctively desire a mate who can protect her and their offspring. "Modern women" look for "ancestral cues of a man's fighting ability," said a 2017 study in the Proceedings of the Royal Society. This very masculinity is being damned as the toxic seed of the patriarchy. Courage and derring-do is the essence of maleness and is what has allowed western civilization to prosper... Families across America are in desperate need for dads, granddads, pastors, and other leaders who are strong, courageous men of God. Like Promise Keepers, Men of Issachar, Every Man a Warrior, and others, FRC has launched "Stand Courageous," a multi-faceted men's ministry that features a series of regional men's events and follow-up materials to help men young and old in their quest to follow a biblical pattern and who will shine like stars in this dark generation. Please join us in this endeavor with prayer! Men, please pray and attend! Women, please pray for us!

- Heavenly Father, Moses told Joshua before all the people, "Be strong and of good courage" (Dt 31:7), then repeated, "Be strong and of good courage" (Dt 31:23). After Moses died, you spoke to Joshua, saying, "be strong and of good courage" (Josh 1:6), again (v.7) and again (v.9). When the people confirmed Joshua as their leader, they, too, said, "Only be strong and of good courage" (v.18). God, help Christian men today become strong and courageous in a hostile culture. May we stand for Christ and lead and equip our families to be strong and courageous in this hour. Restore godly manhood to America both by their example and the fruit that is born in their lives. Enable FRC's "Stand Courageous" to help men be the spiritual leaders, husbands, fathers, protectors, providers, and more to lead and to advance your Kingdom. Christians Deeply Troubled over Chick-fil-A Turn -- The third largest fast food restaurant chain in America won the respect and loyalty of millions of Christians and non-Christians alike due to their unwavering devotion to the principles of its founder Truett Cathy, who passed away in 2014. But the Christian world was shocked when it learned that the stand-out Christian business had succumbed to years of pressure from LGBT activists and pulled its annual support for the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (both of whom hold to natural marriage in their guiding statements) in favor of groups like Covenant House, which hosted a local "Drag Queen Story Hour" for children.
Christians who have loved and wholeheartedly supported Chick-fil-A (CFA) because of their Christian principles have received the news with disappointment, disbelief, anger, and mourning, with some feeling wounded by a sense of betrayal. Still others, in Christian charity, have tried to give the company the benefit of the doubt. But with each day, more and more information comes out that suggests that the leadership of the company has not just succumbed in a momentary weakness, but has deliberately changed course, and in doing so has compromised the principles that made them great.
FRC, which has fully supported and given much free publicity to the chicken chain in the past, was shocked to learn recently that CFA made a gift in 2017 to the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), one of the most virulently anti-Christian organizations in America. Indeed, it was that group's online "Hate Map" that inspired an LGBT activist in August of 2012 to enter FRC headquarters in Washington, D.C. on false pretenses, armed with a 9-millimeter handgun, a hundred rounds of ammunition, and a backpack full of CFA sandwiches with the intention of murdering as many FRC staff as possible and then stuffing their mouths with the sandwiches.
Providentially, FRC building manager Leo Johnson was on duty at the front desk that morning. Though he was shot (the bones of his forearm completely shattered), Leo managed to disarm the gunman and subdue him until the police and FBI arrived. FRC never heard from CFA after that incident, even though part of the reason behind the gunman's choice of FRC for attack was our public support for CFA. We continue to pray for the company's leaders as well as colleges, businesses, and even local governments who bow to the LGBT activist agenda.
Consequently, the capitulation of CFA has been painful to those who have loved them and stood by them. FRC understands the importance of Christian leaders in every sphere of culture to live out their biblical principles. Caving to pressure from those who are hostile to Christianity does not help win them to Christ. Standing for Jesus and his righteousness is everything, even if it means martyrdom. Many men, women, boys, and girls across America have been strengthened by the witness of CFA. Of course, they can do whatever they want with their money. But their Christian witness has been damaged and will be difficult to regain. Sadly, others Christian businesses will likely follow their example to the harm of our desperately hurting culture. With Christianity under fire, everybody is watching. (Read J.P. - Father, only you can change the hearts of people; only you can repair the damage that has been done. Move upon this company. Stir them to see the damage and to repent. Grant discernment from heaven. Cause those who are taking a biblical stand to persevere and not be influenced by CFA's actions. May none be led astray or lose faith as a result of this; rather, may people give all the more to support Bible-honoring organizations, just as they have helped CFA prosper.
