Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

Dear Praying Friends,

Five-Star General Douglas MacArthur commanded in the First World War and rose to become General of the Army and Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. He gave his last address to the cadets at West Point on May 12, 1962. Here are excerpts:

Duty, Honor, Country: Those three hallowed words are your rallying points: to build courage when courage seems to fail; to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith; to create hope when hope becomes forlorn.

Duty, Honor, Country: The unbelievers will say they are but words, every demagogue, every cynic, every hypocrite, and some others of an entirely different character, will try to downgrade them even to the extent of mockery and ridicule. But these are some of the things they do: They build your basic character. They mold you for your future roles as the custodians of the nation's defense. They make you strong enough to know when you are weak, and brave enough to face yourself when you are afraid. They teach you to be proud and unbending in honest failure, but humble and gentle in success; not to substitute words for actions, not to seek the path of comfort, but to face the stress and spur of difficulty and challenge; to learn to stand up in the storm but to have compassion on those who fall; to master yourself before you seek to master others; to have a heart that is clean, a goal that is high; to learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep...to be modest so that you will remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength...they teach you in this way to be an officer and a gentleman.

And what sort of soldiers are those you are to lead? Are they reliable? Are they brave? Are they capable of victory? My estimate of him was formed on the battlefield many, many years ago, and has never changed...He belongs to history as furnishing one of the greatest examples of successful patriotism. He belongs to posterity as the instructor of future generations in the principles of liberty and freedom. He belongs to the present, to us, by his virtues and by his achievements. From one end of the world to the other he has drained deep the chalice of courage...as we sought the way and the light and the truth.

Duty, Honor, Country: The code which those words perpetuate embraces the highest moral laws and will stand the test of any ethics or philosophies ever promulgated for the uplift of mankind. Its requirements are for the things that are right, and its restraints are from the things that are wrong. The soldier, above all other men, is required to practice the greatest act of religious training -- sacrifice. In battle and in the face of danger and death, he discloses those divine attributes which his Maker gave when he created man in his own image. No physical courage and no brute instinct can take the place of the Divine help which alone can sustain him. However horrible the incidents of war may be, the soldier who is called upon to offer and to give his life for his country is the noblest development of mankind." [Speaking directly] Your guidepost stands out like a ten-fold beacon in the night:

Duty, Honor, Country...guarding, protecting [the] hallowed traditions of liberty and freedom, of right and justice... (General Douglas MacArthur in his final address to the Cadets of West Point, May 12, 1962. Hear full address; read full transcript)

MEMORIAL DAY WEEK 2020 -- Our fighting men have been the best in the world, not just because we have been the best equipped, the best trained, or the best led, but because we have been one nation under God. God has been with us. Does that mean we have been perfect? No. But for our benefit, biblical history tells of the lives of leaders God prospered and used and highlighted their relationship with him. They and their armies, all less than perfect, won or lost battles because of faith, morality, obedience, loyalty, and a readiness to sacrifice their all for God and their nation, or the absence of those virtues. Just as God had promised (Lev 26: all; Dt 28: all), victory in every sphere was dependent upon him. General George Washington, the military officer chosen to command the Continental Army, ordered the men under his command to attend religious services often, to observe the sabbath, to pray always, and to be Christian gentlemen (Apostle of Liberty by Stephen McDowell, pp. 88-89, 146-150). Today, our military chaplains are often prohibited from praying in public in Jesus' name. And while God has been with us through the centuries, we must now ask, "Will God go with our armies" in the future? The time for revival in our churches and spiritual awakening in America is now! America must always be ready for war, when right and necessary, but, even more, we must be vigilant and ready in our relationship with God -- as individuals and as a nation. We cannot presume upon God's blessing if we persist in dishonoring him (1 Sam 2:30).

  • Father, we thank you for sacrificing your Only Son for our salvation, and for the men and women who, over centuries, have sacrificed their all -- their lives, families, futures, and dreams -- to protect the American people and your blessings of liberty. May we honor them for their sacrifice, but even more, may we honor You daily -- now and forever -- so that neither Christ's nor their sacrifice will have been in vain. May the liberty they fought for be preserved and our nation be revived as a beacon of light until you return! (Lev 26; 2 Chr 20:15; Josh 1:9; 2 Sam 23:13-17; Ps 20 :7; 23, 33:20-22, 34:18, 116:15; Jn 15:13; 1 Cor 16:13; 2 Cor 1:3-5)

The Call2Fall; Stand Courageous; Watchmen Pastors; Values Voter Summit; The Return -- 2020 is a pivotal year for the United States of America. We have just undergone a major assault on the health of our people and our national economy by a worldwide pandemic, spawned by a previously unknown coronavirus birthed in China, the largest and most powerful communist nation on earth. China poses a major military threat to its neighbors and the world and has become increasingly hostile toward the United States. Amid all this, America has undergone an unprecedented moral decline. Individuals, institutions, and even political parties advocate for government subsidies and special protection for organizations that promote activities that the Bible calls immoral, even abominations to God. Our religion and way of life are threatened on every side within and without. We will have a national election six months from now with both political parties vying to lead America in vastly different directions: one to become a vastly more secular, humanistic, socialist state -- the other seeking to reinstate the vision of religious, political, and economic liberty under law envisioned by our Founder in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution -- a nation under God.

All our conflicts, divisions, and troubles are, at their core, spiritual. Their solutions must also be spiritual. That is why FRC is firmly biblical in our worldview and why we advocate for life, faith, family, and freedom in the public square and work to advance common sense public policy and to increase the involvement of our pastors and churches to do what only they can do to advance spiritual solutions in our nation which is of, by, and for the people. Revival in our churches, spiritual awakening in our nation, and a biblical reformation in our homes, churches, and community are the bedrock of our hope for positive change in our nation.

CALL2FALL, coming up Sunday, June 28, is a movement of churches and families who will take time in their church or home to humble themselves on their knees, repent of everything they know to be displeasing to God, and rededicate their lives to faithfulness and obedience to him as per 2 Chronicles 7:14, joining in unity with churches and families across the land who are similarly repenting and praying for our nation.STAND COURAGEOUS is FRC's effort to bring God's vision for biblical manhood to Christian men, young and old, in a nation where manhood in general and Christian manhood in particular have been under assault for decades (Dt 31:6; 1 Cor 16:13; Php 1:12-14). WATCHMEN PASTORS is a growing network of pastors and churches who are working together and have pledged to 1) Pray and teach their people to pray; 2) Preach the whole word of God as it applies to the issues of our day, and 3) Partner with other pastors in their community to be a voice in their community regarding happenings and the issues that will either make or break our nation (2 Chr 7:14; Is 40:11; Jer 3:14-15; Mt 6:6, 10:17-23, 26:41; Mk 11:24, 12:29-31; Lk 6:27-28; Jn 21:15-18; Acts 5:29, 20:28; Eph 3:14-21; Php 4:6; Ja 5:20; 1 Pet 5:2). The VALUES VOTER SUMMIT is FRC's massive annual gathering of Christian movers and shakers who want to pray and take action (be salt and light) to make a difference in their local, state, and national government (Mt 5:13-16, 10:16). For THE RETURN(Ps 102:17; Jer 3:21-22; 29:12-13; Mk 11:25; Lk 5:32; Acts 2:21, 3:19; 1 Tim 2:8,; 1 Th 5:16-18, Ja9 5:16; 1 Jn 1:9), join with pastors, churches, parachurch ministries of every kind, prayer groups, and denominations from all over the U.S. and around the world for an unprecedented national and international Solemn Assembly to confess, repent, and return to God, pleading to him for forgiveness for our multiple departures from him and for the wholehearted return to the God of the Bible of all our fellow countrymen and citizens of every nation. Please join in each of these as you able and join us as a prayer team to multiply the reach and effectiveness of each of these efforts.

  • Father, thank you for the praying people whom you choose to use to produce and sustain every ministry that you ordain to expand your kingdom in our world. Lord, bless each person who reads these weekly prayer targets, and enlist them to pray regularly for each of these ministries. I pray that you will enable them somehow to be a part of those great historic and history changing events. Please move our nation toward a great revival and Awakening. We commit the opening of our nation to you and we pray that you will oversee and accomplish your will in each election that will take place this year, primary and general. Lord, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. In Jesus' name, AMEN!

Finally, please pray over these matters as the Holy Spirit leads you: 1) The end of Hong Kong as we know it; 2) Planned Parenthood's deceitand theft from the American people; 3) Response to the agenda-driven Norma McCorvey film; 4) President Trump orders church openings, more; 5) HHS about to protect religious liberty, yet again!

There is so much more. Thank you for praying!
