Prayer Targets: For America's Life - The Return; For Our Salt & Light Mission - Values Voter Summit
September 16, 2020
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. (Acts 3:19)
Dear Praying Friends,
The Return will take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. just 10 days from today -- on Saturday, September 26, 2020. People of all nations are invited, but it should be a profound priority for every American Christian who cares about their loved ones and the future of our nation. It is a present-day effort to observe a genuine, biblical, solemn assembly just as God intended them, to result in the return of a needy people. Beginning Saturday at 9 a.m. ET and continuing until 5 p.m., the day will be followed by a time of worship from 5 until 9 p.m. There will also be a pre-event Friday night. The Return is a live, onsite event on the large grassy lawn of the National Mall. People will need to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, and water (those who cannot fast should bring something to sustain them throughout the day). The day will not be a day of long sermons but of short biblical exhortations, repentance, and prayer. Pray that the presence of God will be upon the assembly just as he was in so many biblical assemblies throughout the history of Israel and Judah, in the American colonies, and in the critical days of prayer that took place during America's founding era and the Civil War. Pray that God will do a deep work in the hearts of those who attend in person and in churches and homes around the world where people will be tuned in via the internet and several television networks across the globe. Pray that genuine, God-sent revival will be the result across America and other nations, like that prophesied in the book of Joel chapter 2.
After decades of moral and spiritual decline in America, and knowing God's profound biblical promises and warnings of judgment to nations that have known God and his blessing, but forgotten him, Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn (bio), Pastor Kevin Jessip (bio), and a number of key advisors and Christian leaders have been deeply moved by the Holy Spirit to call for a National and International Solemn Assembly. Read on:
America has in great measure departed from God and His ways. We have forgotten the rock upon which we were founded. In many instances we have removed God from our public squares, our culture, and our lives. It is written in the Scriptures that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people and, further, that the ways of unrighteousness lead to judgment.
However, the Scriptures also set forth that God is love and abounding in mercy and that all who come before Him to seek for His mercy will find it -- and that in repentance and return will come forgiveness, salvation, healing, revival, and restoration. It is upon that foundation that this promise is given: "If My people who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their sinful ways,
We stand at a pivotal moment in American history and world history. A juncture, that can permanently seal our nation's course and the course of world history, for bad or good, for calamity or redemption. America and much of western culture, were founded on a Biblical foundation stone that has turned away and even against the foundation on which it was birthed. In the days after 9/11, people flocked to churches and it looked as if there could have been a spiritual revival and awakening. But it never came. Because there was no repentance, turning back to God, no changing of course, no repenting -- And without repentance, without that turning, there can be no revival. So America fell even farther, spiritually, morally, away from God. We have driven God from our public squares, we have called what is good evil and what is sin, good, we have sacrificed the lives of over sixty million unborn children, and we now seek to do so up to the time of birth [and beyond].
The Return is for all believers who love the Lord from all denominations and backgrounds, black, white, Spanish, Asian, men, women, youth, children, Jew and Gentile, everyone. Believers and leaders already on board with the Return include everyone from Pat Robertson to James Dobson, to Billy Graham's daughter Ann Graham Lotz, to Martin Luther King's Niece Alveda King, [Tony Perkins] -- and many, many more. The hour is late -- and the call is to all -- To you, parents, to lead your families in revival, to you ministers, to lead your groups in revival, to you pastors, to lead your churches in revival, to you leaders to lead your organizations, your denominations, your people into revival. And if you're seeking God, then now is the time to come to him or return to Him and to come alongside.
The movement begins now (in the preparation of our hearts and minds and we continue through) the ten days, known from ancient times as the Days of Awe, September 18 to September 28, as a special time to intensify our prayers, intercession, repentance, and revival. It all begins on the Feast of Trumpets and concludes on the Day of Atonement, the Day of Return, on Saturday, September 26 [Note: While The Return has been in prayer and planning for years, the date and name chosen long before the cataclysms of 2020: COVID 19, the loss of life, the shuttering of the economy, unprecedented job loss, ravaging hurricanes, fires, racial unrest, riots, previously unimaginable cultural and political rancor and division and other heaven-sent warnings. And long before the Return Team learned, just weeks ago, that the Hebrew Calendar marks September 26, 2020, as "Shabbat Shuva," the ("Sabbath [of] Return" ??'? ???'?") that occurs during the Ten Days of Repentance between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Only one Shabbat can occur between these dates. This Shabbat is named after the first word of the Haftarah (Hosea 14:2-10) and literally means "Return!" It is perhaps a play on, but not to be confused with, the word Teshuvah (the word for repentance) (see Hebcal.com).
So now, in view of that calling, and of the times in which we've been called and to which we have been appointed, and in view of the moment before us, let us rise to that call, let us take God at His word, let us do what He has called us to do, let us believe for great and mighty things, and let us each return and seek to live in revival and become messengers of revival -- It is time to break up our fallow ground -- It is time to seek the Lord as never before. The moment and chance we have before us now may never happen again. It is time to return! (Visit The Return)
The 15th Annual Values Voter Summit -- This year's much needed pre-election Values Voter Summit (VVS) will be held September 22-25. The event will run one and a half hours each evening Tuesday through Friday from 8 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. ET. On Saturday, those interested in running for public office or participating in political activism will be offered a free three-hour training session to help equip them. FRC pulled back its traditionally full Saturday schedule to accommodate those who will participate in The Return because we believe The Return is so very important. Thus, the Saturday session will be recorded so that those who choose to take part in The Return can still view the Political & Public Policy Action videos later. The entire week's sessions will be archived online so that those who cannot participate live can view the entire VVS event and post links to their social media and send to their friends. Those who have been to previous Summits know that this is the premier event for any believer who wants to advance the effectiveness of their role as a Christian and American citizen. It is geared especially for SAGECONs! Visit the VVS website and register for your FREE DIGITAL PASS. Get any updates between now and Tuesday. Visit the event schedule page to see the speakers and topics to be covered in the breakout sessions, all of which will be viewable following the event. FRC is still juggling schedules of top administration officials and government leaders who will speak during the main sessions each night. Be assured, they are people you won't want to miss hearing from directly. So, while some of the speakers will be a surprise, I promise you that you will not be disappointed.
I am highlighting these events in the Prayer Targets, not just to encourage you to participate, but to request that you pray over them. FRC depends upon your prayers for the success of every effort and event we sponsor, large or small.
- Heavenly Father, the world goes on and there are many, many issues that need our prayer attention, but The Return and the Values Voter Summit require special attention because of the great need for them, and the potential impact they can have on our families, churches, nation, and world.
- The Return: If our repentance and intercession does not move your heart of mercy, if our standing in the gap by faith is inadequate, we know that your judgments are already underway. You warn even the faithful, hardworking church that because we have left our first love, you will take our lampstand if we do not repent. You warn us that unless we all repent, we shall all likewise perish. With rare exceptions, our churches have become a caricature of the church you envision. We have not been the salt and light you have called us to be. As a result, alien ideologies have flooded our land and captured the imaginations of our children. Our churches have compromised your word for the world. Oh God, may The Return bring together millions to repent, may your heart be touched, and may multitudes of men, women, boys, and girls turn to you in genuine repentance and faith. Revive our churches and make us salt and light again. Have mercy upon America! Give us more time to change, and by your power, see revival, restoration, and reformation. Have mercy upon the lost who do not know their left hand from their right, and move to end the violence in our streets. Withhold the judgments due us and grant us more time, we pray. May our nation honor you, again, in Truth. (Dt 28: all; 2 Chr 7:13-14; Jer 3:12; 4:1-4; Eze 18:30-32; Joel 1:13-15; 2:12-19; Mal 3:7a; Mt 3:2; 4:5-7; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30; 1Th 5:17; Jas 4:10; 1 Pet 5:6)
- The Values Voter Summit: Equip your people, Lord, to exercise their influence upon our nation in order to elect leaders who will lead in righteousness and justice this fall -- men and women who know you and some who may not yet know you, but who honor your laws and will lead accordingly. God, give rank and file believers everywhere the gift of evangelism, teaching, exhorting, knowledge, wisdom, and leadership to know how to impart to our fellow countrymen knowledge and wisdom. May they be equipped with a biblical worldview and be commissioned afresh to go forth and teach our fellow countrymen to think aright, according to your wisdom, laws, and precepts, as you originally commissioned us to do. Make those who attend VVS this year a seedbed for godly leaders who will be used by you to turn this country around and to become, again, and miraculously soon, One Nation Under God! In Jesus name, amen. (Ex 18:21; 1 Sam 8:9 ff; Ps 107:2; 133: all; Pr 16:3, 9; Pr 28:12; Pr 29:2; Ecc 4:9-12; Is 55:6; Hos 4:6; Mt 5:13-17; Jn 9:4; Eph 6:10-20; 1 Th 5:17; 2 Tim 2:15; Rev 12:11)
I hope you will join us for each of these wonderful undertakings, and that you will join us in special prayer for the two weeks ahead. As always, THANK YOU for praying!
