"The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." (Psalm 33:10-12)
Dear Praying Friends,
Rev. Franklin Graham, son of the late Dr. Billy Graham, has risen to a remarkable level of spiritual leadership in America, as Chairman of both Samaritan's Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA). Graham boldly addresses the controversial issues of our day with plain biblical truth. These excerpts are from Graham's September Decision Magazine article Blessed Is the Nation Whose God Is the Lord:
Four years ago, I said that the 2016 presidential contest was the most important election of our lifetime, affording America a window of opportunity to reverse nearly a decade of government hostility toward the Biblical values that undergird our great nation.
Thankfully, under the current administration, our religious liberties have been protected and preserved through several executive orders and the appointment of conservative judges and justices. Through executive actions, the right to life for the unborn and the freedom for Christian organizations and professionals to practice according to their sincerely held religious beliefs have been advanced and upheld.
However, as the 2020 election draws near, I have a dire warning for Christians: This wonderful season of progress for the cause of religious freedom and the moral and Biblical values we hold dear could be quickly -- and perhaps even permanently -- reversed.
Voters are choosing between two polar-opposite visions for America -- one that threatens to send our country spiraling down the dangerous road of socialism, and one that promises to uphold the constitutional freedoms our nation is built upon while making America the envy of the world.
"If we truly want the blessings of the Lord on our country, then we must come humbly before Him, seek His face in prayer and fasting and repentance, and ask if He might by His grace and mercy bring healing to our troubled nation."
Look what is happening in the streets of our cities -- in Oregon, Washington, Illinois, Wisconsin, New York. Lawlessness, anarchy, violence and arson are rampant. Rioters are bent on mayhem and destruction. Police precincts have been torched, stores looted and businesses ruined. Incredibly, the authorities in some of these places have simply let it unfold without any repercussions for the perpetrators.
The progressive leftists who are driving the socialist agenda want more power to be vested in the federal government so they will have more authority to control those who disagree with them. It's all about power and control, and preying on the weak and vulnerable. Make no mistake -- socialism is the precursor to communism, where the state has absolute control over the people. We've seen this play out miserably in places like Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union, Cuba and Venezuela.
That same agenda is driving the ridiculous call to defund the police. Can you imagine what our cities and our nation would look like if we suddenly crippled those who are called to serve and protect -- so they could not respond to those in danger or need? It would be disastrous. I love what South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem said: "There is no mother in this country that wants to raise her children on the streets of Portland or Seattle." She's absolutely right.
History teaches us that if the progressive, socialist left can seize power, Christians especially will be targeted. Believers will always refuse to bow to the power of the state if it asks us to disobey Scripture, and the left believes they can force us to betray our beliefs. It has been the church of the Lord Jesus Christ that has stood in the gap against abortion for more than six decades, held firm to the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman and led the movements to abolish slavery and establish civil rights. True Christians will never render unto Caesar the things that are God's. They will never bend their knee to the idol of the state. That's why communist countries do all they can to suppress and silence the church, which they regard as the enemy of the state...
I want to encourage you to pray for our nation, remembering that only God can transform hearts and heal our land. Then get out and vote on Nov. 3. It is our civic responsibility as Christians, and we must do all we can to support candidates on the federal, state and local level who most strongly support Biblical principles. The evangelical vote was crucial in the 2016 election, and it will be even more so in the 2020 election. I hope Christians across the nation realize the grave dangers that are poised to strike at the heart of the religious liberties we have fought so hard to protect.
One thing I am sure of: We must put all of our hope in Almighty God above all else. He alone has the power to transform lives, hearts and minds. As the Prophet Jeremiah warned, "Thus says the Lord: 'Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me'" (Jeremiah 9:23-24)..."As this year's election draws near, with all of its serious consequences, please spend time each day in fervent prayer for our nation." As Charles Spurgeon famously said, "Prayer is the slender nerve that moves the muscle of [God's] omnipotence."
And put your hope in the only One who holds the future. "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11) (See full article at DecisionMagazine.com).
The Return and the Pray for America March -- Both of these events were significant. The Return was a two-day event -- an evening, full day, and a second evening on Washington, D.C.'s National Mall. The Pray for America March was a powerful two-hour-long prayer walk. Both events were well attended, with tens of thousands of believers at each event in Washington. Many of the march attendees joining The Return after the march.
I was at The Return all day but talked to marchers. There was a shared experience of the unique presence of God, and praying for our nation was the shared focus of both groups. The presence and peace of God were palpable on the National Mall, and there were no riots or interference. At The Return, repentance was the major focus, thoroughly addressed by the numerous Christian leaders who spoke and led the group in prayers of repentance. The sense of God's holiness was powerful and striking for an open-air meeting. The messages were deep and moving, affirming those who had travelled from afar to be there. Those from both gatherings came with repentant hearts, prepared to humble themselves and to intercede for our troubled land -- and they did. After all the morning messages and prayers of repentance had been offered, an intentional time of restful worship was offered. The presence of God and a sense of awe and peace came upon me and it seemed to me, everyone present. I felt as if God was saying to us that he had heard our corporate repentance and intercessions for America and the church of America -- that the mission of the solemn assembly had been accomplished. We had met with God and could rest in his love and assurance. I could not hold back from weeping and I have talked to others, since, who were also moved to tears.
At the same time, we knew that this was not the end, but a beginning, because we had repented, we prayed, and now we need to continue in that walk of repentance and prayer and to expect great things from God among and through his people. Amid the sin, turmoil, and challenges we are facing across America, we received hope from God for America. As bad as we have become, we received hope for change. Knowing God had heard our prayers, we could rest in his love. This was a milestone day in the history of the church in America. While we have much to do, God gave that great body of believers' faith that we could count on his mercy and grace as we continue to extend his message of repentance and mercy to others. This is what God promised after the Solemn Assembly in Joel's day (Read Joel 2: all, again). After the people of ancient Judah gathered in solemn assembly to return to God from their plagues and backslidings and to cry out to Him for their nation, God began immediately to heal and restore. He then promised to pour out his Spirit upon all flesh. They would prophesy and everyone who would call upon the name of the Lord would be saved. Revival broke out and will break out today as we meet God's conditions (2 Chr 7:14).
The Return is not yet over. It began before the Solemn Assembly in Washington, D.C., in churches and cities around the nation and around the world. Leading ministers from many nations spoke and prayed on the National Mall on Saturday for America and for their own nations. Calls came in from Israel that "all Israel is watching The Return." Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, Co-Chairman with Pastor Kevin Jessip of The Return, presented a message of powerful, biblical truth during the 11 a.m. hour that brought to mind the prophets who spoke to ancient Israel, and the sounding of the shofar joined by what seemed like hundreds of shofars stationed throughout the throng added to the movement of the moment. God spoke powerfully through every speaker and through the prayers of many mature men and women of God who guided the repentant individuals and families assembled -- with an anointing that cannot be described adequately on paper. The content, quality, and anointing of the program for both days was stunning. The anointing never lifted but ebbed and flowed like waves in an ocean of wonder, grace, and I dare say, in modern America, holiness, truth, and love.
I am writing this to urge every praying reader who missed The Return to rush to watch every minute of it, then to send links to everyone you know and love encouraging them to do likewise. If you were there, you know what I mean. I have been to hundreds of great, Christian events over the past several decades, many of them truly historic. This was not just an event; it was a Kairos (Strong's G2540) and Chronos (G5550) time in American and Christian history. Early Saturday morning, The Return team learned that 40 million Americans had viewed the Friday evening segment online or via television. Upwards of 250 million and as many as 400 million had viewed the same segment overseas (it was broadcast in 90 languages). Time does not allow me to describe The Return. You must prayerfully visit the site and see The Return for yourself, and repent and pray along with those who have already taken part. Our returning to God as a people is America's only hope! (See President & Mrs. Trump's message to The Return; Return simulcast archive)
- Father, please draw men and women, boys and girls to The Return. Though the live event is over, it will continue to help facilitate much needed repentance, faith, and prayer -- prayer needed now! (2 Chr 15:4; Is 55:7; Jer 24:7; Lam 3:40; Hos 6:1; 14:1; Joel 2:13; Zech 1:3; Mal 3:7; Lk 15:20-21)
The Values Voter Summit (VVS) -- On Tuesday through Friday last week, FRC broadcast its 15th annual Values Voter Summit from FRC headquarters in Washington, D.C. VVS, too, has gotten the highest possible reviews from participants across America. While quite different from our celebratory in-person Summits held in the Omni Shoreham, our virtual event allowed us to reach an audience many times our normal attendance. Top reviews from the across the country continue to flow in from day to day. Although you may wish to binge-watch the Summit, segments of the outstanding program are viewable on demand. So, it's easy to watch the entire conference in your spare time. You won't get a bigger or clearer overview of what you need to know to prepare yourself and others for the most important election in our lifetime. Top experts gave clear, inspirational testimonies and informative speeches as well as current political and cultural analysis from a biblical worldview for Summit conferees at no cost. Please watch and urge you friends and family to do so, too.
- Lord, you are using electronic communication to expand your reach. Please multiply the influence and educational reach of FRC during this time when America is in peril. (Ex 18:17-21; Dt 1:13; Ps 111:10; Pr 8:16, Dan 2:20-21; Mt 5:13-16; Eph 5:8; 1 Tim 2:1-2)
Finally, please pray over these two important items: 1) Birthday Abortions -- Last week, President Trump signed an executive order to protect infants who survive a failed abortion attempt. Efforts are underway from the Left to prevent the order from being enforced. 2) Voter Fraud -- Project Veritas, the undercover journalist who specializes in exposing fraudulent left-wing schemes, has uncovered a ballot harvesting ring operating in Minnesota. Thank you for praying!
